Biographical Information:

Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 and died 1910. She and her family lived in Derbyshire, London in England. Her family were very wealthy. Florence’s father educated her for awhile. She got a job studying medical reports and became an expert on public health. In Germany she was trained to nurse the sick. In 1853 she was appointed as superintendent. Florence healed 20000 sick and wounded.



Trials and Tribulations:

Florence's hardest thing in her life was when her parents were opposed to the idea as nursing. She did though had many accomplishments. In 1851 she spent four hours at Kaiserwerth training as a sick nurse. In 1854 she led a group of nurses to a military hospital in Turkey to help wounded British soldiers. In 1856 she returned to England as a national heroine.In 1857 Florence started the Army Medical School and a Sanitary Department to protect the health of British soldiers in India. She opened the Nightingale School for Nurses which was the first nursing school.
